Why It's Ok To Indulge

This is not your conventional post you would expect a future Registered Dietitian to blog about. I wanted to take the time to share with all those who come across any of my social media pages, that I am a real person too. I believe it's ok to indulge from time to time.

I always find it funny when I go out and I order pizza, burger, alcohol, or any other "unhealthy" food, people always ask why am I eating that. I am an open book and I'm honest with people. I believe life is too short to miss out on the foods you enjoy.

Your health should come first and foremost. I exercise 3-4x/ week and I eat about 6x/ day (3 snacks and 3 meals). I consume nutrient dense foods and practice what I preach. I eat for my lifestyle and goals. Part of mindful eating is about being able to indulge in some of the foods you enjoy eating WITHOUT feeling guilty.

For me, and it's no secret, I love Wendy's. Every once in a while I do go there and "pig out". I also do so responsibly. I order a small, not a medium, a large or supersize it. But, if once in a blue moon, you want to supersize it, heck, go for it. Just don't do it 2-3x a week.

When you cut out everything all at once, you are more prone to get off track. When people start diets they feel they have to give up their favorite foods, drink black coffee, drink 5 gallons of water, workout for 3 hours/day, eat gross foods, so on and so forth. Make small changes, you want to make a permanent change. In order to do so, you need to develop healthy habits.

DON'T LET FOOD CONSUME YOU. It's important to develop a healthy relationship with food. Figure out what works for you and your lifestyle. Remember, what works for Susie may not work for Sally.

FYI: I am not writing to promote fast food. I am trying to show you I do relate to the barriers you all may have. But most importantly, that whatever your indulgence is, it's ok to give in. Just do so mindfully.

Also, in case you were wondering what I like to eat when I go to Wendy's, it's one of two things. I order a #1, shown below,  OR a #7, with a small Dr. Pepper and fries.
